Austin
Austin is a purple kangaroo and a major character in The Backyardigans.
Austin's speaking voice is provided by Jonah Bobo. His singing voice was provided by Thomas Sharkey for the first three seasons and by Nicholas Barasch for the final season

Description:
Austin is described as the "new kangaroo on the block," and he does not know the other characters very well yet. He is somewhat hesitant to express his opinions, and slow to take the lead. When he overcomes his shy feelings, Austin gets the respect he deserves. He is revealed to be sweet and intelligent as the series progresses. Throughout his adventures, he frequently takes the role of a humble servant or faithful assistant, putting his friends' needs ahead of his own and helping them in any way he can. He is not one to ask for recognition, but even so, he receives a lot of love and support from his friends for all that he does for them.
Residence:
Austin lives in an purple-colored house to the right of Uniqua's home. It is separated from the other characters' houses by a wooden fence. When the characters visit Austin's house for a snack, they use a door within the fence to enter Austin's front yard.
Looks:
Austin has purple skin and long ears. His nose and eyebrows are a darker shade of purple. Austin has a tail which comes out of the seat of his shorts and trails on the ground. He wears a light blue shirt with a yellow stripe across the middle. He wears rolled-up blue pants.
Appearances:
Austin appears the least out of the five main characters in The Backyardigans. He was not present for the two pilots and debuted in "Pirate Treasure". His last appearance in an episode of The Backyardigans was in "The Tale of the Not-So-Nice Dragon". His last appearance in any aired animation was in Nickelodeon'sMega Music Fest 2010.

Uniqua
Uniqua is the protagonist of The Backyardigans. She is the only character to appear in every episode. The series uses the name "Uniqua" for both the character and her species.
Uniqua is voiced by LaShawn Tináh Jefferies throughout the entire series. Her singing voice is provided by Jamia Simone Nash in seasons one through three and by Avion Baker in the fourth season.
Description:
Uniqua is highly energetic. She is often the character to come up with new ideas for adventures. Compared to Tasha, she displays a more tomboy-like personality. Uniqua and Tasha occasionally get into disagreements over small things, usually due to differing opinions. No matter what, Uniqua will find a way to end the quarrel and have a good laugh with her friend.
At her very core, Uniqua knows what it means to be a true companion and has a heart full of compassion. She is loyal and loves to help others. Uniqua is persistently optimistic and determined to overcome any obstacle she faces on her adventures. Regardless of what role she plays while imagining scenarios with her friends, she always has a sense of humor.
Residence:
Uniqua lives in a pink-colored house located between Tyrone's house and Austin's house. It is visited more than any other character's residence. The interior is never shown, but a coat rack and a table can be seen in various episodes when Uniqua exits her home.

Tyrone
Tyrone is an anthropomorphic moose and the tritagonist ofThe Backyardigans.
Tyrone's speaking voice was initially provided by Reginald Davis, with Jordan Coleman assuming the role during the second season. Chris Grant voiced the character for the final season. Tyrone's singing voice was first provided by Corwin Tuggles. Leon Thomas provided it in the second season and some of the third, with Damani Roberts taking over for several episodes and Tyrel Williams assuming the role for the remainder of the third and fourth seasons.
Description
Tyrone is confident, laid-back, and easygoing. He is best friends with Pablo, and their different personalities make them perfect complements to each other. While Pablo is a quick thinker, Tyrone likes to take his time. Tyrone can get nervous or frightened on occasion, but he is not insecure about his fears.
At the end of every episode he appears in, Tyrone recites the line, "That was an excellent (type) adventure, don't you think?" Pablo, Tasha, and Austin use the line when he is absent.
Residence:
Tyrone lives in an orange-colored house in the center of the backyard. Two lawn chairs and a slide are visible in front of it.
Looks:
Tyrone's skin is orange. He has red fringe between his antlers, which are light yellow. His eyes are white with black pupils. His face and head are shaped similarly to Tasha's (though his muzzle is less rounded). His standard striped shirt is red-orange and blue.

Tyrone has appeared in many episodes of The Backyardigans. He is absent for five episodes: "Ranch Hands from Outer Space", "Pirate Camp", "Dragon Express", "The Funnyman Boogeyman" and "The Flipper!"

Tasha is a yellow hippopotamus and a major character in The Backyardigans.
Tasha's speaking voice was provided by Naelee Rae in the first two seasons and by Gianna Bruzzese in the final two seasons. Her singing voice was initially provided by Kristin Klabunde, with Gabriella Malek taking over during the third season and continuing to voice the character for the remainder of the series.
Description:
Tasha is assertive and likes to be in charge most of the time. She is rational, skeptical, and highly motivated to get her own way. Tasha is normally very opinionated. She is difficult to frighten, a fact she takes pride in.
Tasha tends to play a somewhat antagonistic role throughout the first season, often acting bossy towards the other characters. In later episodes, her personality becomes bolder and less overbearing.

Tasha lives in an yellow-colored house to the left of Pablo's home. It is visited the least out of the five main characters' residences. Whenever the Backyardigans are shown heading to Tasha's house for a snack, they walk behind Pablo's house to get there.
Looks:
Tasha is a yellow-skinned hippo with a red-pink tongue and two nostrils above her mouth. She wears a pair of red Mary-Janes and an orange dress with eight light-orange flowers printed on it in random spots.

Pablo
Pablo is a blue anthropomorphic penguin and the deuteragonist of The Backyardigans.
Pablo's voice was provided by Zach Tyler Eisen in the first season and by Jake Goldberg for the remainder of the series. His singing voice is provided by Sean Curley.

Pablo is a frenetic penguin who is more tightly wound than his friends. He thinks, speaks, acts and reacts quickly. He may not be the most agile or graceful of the Backyardigans, but he is enthusiastic and determined.
Pablo undergoes a "panic attack" in nearly every episode of the first season. His tendency to worry continues to be brought up throughout the show, but he does not panic as frequently in later seasons

Pablo's head, arms, back and toes are dark blue. His chest and legs are a pale yellow. His arms end in mitten-like flippers. He wears a blue bowtie and a blue-and-yellow beanie hat with a red propeller. He has a yellow beak and a pink tongue. Pablo is the only major character with toes.
